Maceration Perfume: Resting Before Release
What maceration means at ÉCLATAUR: resting after blending, followed by evaluation for clarity, character and consistency.

Maceration is the resting stage after blending. At ÉCLATAUR, a batch rests before its final evaluation and bottling. We release it when it meets the house standard.
From blending to evaluation
The fragrance and its carrier are blended, then kept in controlled storage. Resting creates a stage in which the perfumer can return to the composition and assess it before release.
We check appearance and clarity, follow the scent from opening to dry-down, and compare its character with the intended composition. Filtration may be part of preparing the finished batch. A batch that needs further attention remains at the atelier.
What resting does not prove
A smooth opening does not reveal how a perfume was made. Descriptions such as “rounder” or “more settled” are sensory observations; they are not measurements of chemical change or increased longevity.
We do not present one resting schedule as a rule for every fragrance house, and resting alone does not establish a promise about wear time. Skin, application, conditions and the complete formula affect how a fragrance wears.
Is cold treatment the same as maceration?
Cold treatment and resting serve different purposes. A batch may be chilled and filtered to assess clarity, but that does not replace resting or final evaluation. We describe the process as craft, without claiming that a particular treatment guarantees better performance.
Our release standard
A finished batch is evaluated for clarity, character and consistency before hand bottling. The decision concerns the complete fragrance, rather than a number printed on a product page.
